Codex usage resets: timing, regular vs banked

“When does Codex reset?” can mean your personal usage allowance or an extra reset announced by OpenAI. This guide explains the difference so you know what to check next.

When does Codex usage reset?

There is no single reset clock for every account. Plans and usage windows differ; check Settings → Usage or your usage dashboard for the allowance that ran out and its displayed reset time. In the Codex CLI, /status shows your account’s usage information.

What is a regular or global reset?

We label a reported automatic reset “regular”. It applies to the eligible usage limits described in that announcement and is not saved for later. A public post is evidence of the announcement, not proof that every account has received it.

What is a banked Codex reset?

A banked reset is a saved, one-time reset for an eligible account. You choose when to apply it before its expiry. It is not an API credit balance or a permanent allowance increase. A full banked reset refreshes eligible five-hour and weekly windows and can move your weekly reset date; check your account for the resulting schedule.

Codex reset, but you are still rate limited?

Check the account and workspace you are using, the exhausted allowance and the announcement’s eligibility. A saved banked reset must be applied; an automatic reset can take time to appear. Refresh Usage. If an eligible reset still seems missing, contact OpenAI Support with the source announcement, time zone and a screenshot of your usage, without sensitive data.

Can the next Codex reset be predicted?

Our 48-hour outlook uses completed historical intervals; it is a reference, not an official schedule or a guarantee. Tibo’s October 4 UTC post promises a daily improvement or a full reset for 28 days, but supplies no next reset time or daily cutoff. No desktop update prompt does not establish that no improvement shipped.

How do we track Codex reset history?

We check the public Codex Resets feed every five minutes and retain source links and regular/banked labels. The history page lists the records available in that feed, not every personal account refill. The homepage calendar supports SF and local dates. A delayed or failed feed check may leave the last successful record visible.

How do email and Telegram alerts work?

Submit your email, open the confirmation link and confirm on the page to activate reset alerts. Every reset email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also join the public Telegram channel. Alerts depend on a new reset entering the source feed; a conditional promise is not itself a confirmed reset. No login or access to your OpenAI account is required.
